While the 2-2 tie was not the outcome we were hoping for it gave us a good idea of what we need to work on and won't count towards our official record when it's all said and done.
The next couple weeks will give us a chance to tweak some things and work on what we didn't do so well during our game. While we don't have any games this upcoming weekend, it will give us some extra time to get ready for Quinnipiac and the start of our regular season. It was great to see so many of our freshmen play for the first time. They were able to get their legs under them as the game went on and it will be nice to see everyone develop as the year goes on.
One thing that got the guys excited this week was our first edition of the Lemon Griff. The Lemon Griff is a tradition in which we hold a team shootout after practice and everyone must keep going until they score. Whoever is the last player left without scoring is claimed that month's Lemon Griff and has the pleasure of eating a full lemon, skin and all. In addition, the Lemon Griff must wear a yellow helmet in practice for a month, sharply contrasting the blue helmets the rest of us wear.
While the Lemon Griff event always proves embarrassing for one player, the other 26 get a kick out of it. This month's Lemon Griff "winner" has already received enough bad press because of the timing of the first shootout, so I won't throw him under the bus right now. Those who choose to watch this week's video chronicle on GoGriffs.com can find out who the lucky player was.
This weekend will be a chance to take advantage of some rest and team-building activities. Quinnipiac will certainly prove to be a different type of test next week and we want to make sure we do everything we can to be ready. We know they are a tough team to play against and it should be an exciting atmosphere given it is their opening weekend at home. Our preseason is officially over and the guys couldn't be happier. It will be nice to get into our daily routines we will be following the rest of the semester and we're ready for a productive week and a half of practice.
Until next week, keep your head up.
