With so many Canadians on our team and within our athletic department, it is nice to have Monday and Tuesday off school this week so some can spend time with their families. Our team took Monday afternoon to spend Canadian Thanksgiving at Coach Smith's house in East Amherst. With Mrs. Smith being out of town, I'm not sure how Coach was able to pull together such a large meal but he did and a good time was had by all.
This weekend off gave us some more time to come together as a team. In addition to the Thanksgiving get together, we took part in an orienteering activity at Chestnut Ridge Park on Saturday. Adventure racer, Tom Wagar, led our team through an event in which teams of five competed against each other. Each team was given a compass and a topographical map and had to find different checkpoints throughout the woods. Each team also had to formulate a game plan and try to execute it to collect as many points as possible.
Everyone was engaged in the activity and got a lot out of it. There were even multiple sightings of Coach Adams running down hills at speeds upwards of 20 mph. Unfortunately, his team still came in second place.
While there was some controversy in the win, Dan Morrison was proud to capture "his first-ever team activity victory" through four years as a Griff. My team's ugliest moment was provided by Jordan Mustard who tripped over a branch at full speed like something straight out of an Indiana Jones movie.
With our first regular season weekend ahead, lifts and practices are focusing around the games and the team is preparing for Quinnipiac. The Bobcats are coming off a weekend split with Ohio State and we are excited to face-off against them this Saturday and Sunday.
Individually, we spent all summer training for the start of the season. As a team, we have come together during the fall in preparation for a season as a single unit. We are all looking forward to starting the year and want to thank everyone who will be following us this season!
Until next week, keep your head up.
