Any win in college hockey is a good win. A win against a team you haven't beaten in three years is a very good win. Winning it in the closing minutes of the third period In front of a great crowd in your home opener is a GREAT win.

Knocking off RIT on Thursday night was a great feat for our young team and hopefully a game we can gain some confidence from. We don't want to use youth as an excuse this year and knocking off the top-ranked team in our conference shows us we have the ability to compete with anyone.

With that being said it's only one game. Thursday was just one of many but it was nice to get off on the right foot in league play. Our team played a full 60 minutes of tough hockey and we were rewarded for our efforts.

Dan Morrison had a memorable night - a performance that didn't surprise our team or those that cheer us on. Dan has been known to steal games once and a while, and while our team played well, Dan was easily the night's first star.

While we can't honestly say a warm-up was the difference in a game, on Thursday Preston Shupe introduced the Griffs to JUMP. I must say I was a bit skeptical at the beginning, but this upbeat "dance" warm-up was pretty entertaining and pretty effective. It's not every day you find 22 guys dancing around to "Barbara Streisand" but we made it work and it will certainly stick for the rest of the year.

Apologies go out to our equipment manager, Taylor Anderson, who walked into the locker room during the song. He wasn't notified of the new routine and looked mortified before he quickly turned around and left the room.

As a team, we can't thank those who came out to the RIT game enough. From fellow athletes to students, friends and family, having a good crowd on hand makes a world of difference. It was a great night to be a Griff and we look forward to coming back home again in two weeks to take on Bentley.

Until then, we will prepare this week for a Saturday night game in Colorado Springs against an always tough Air Force team. We know we still have a lot to work on and will keep trying to get better every day.

Until next week, keep your head up.
