With only six games left, the fight for a home playoff series is on. However, due to the remaining schedules of teams were close with, we may need some help. Either way, all we can do the rest of the way is win our own games.
We face three of the top teams in our league, with two games against RIT, Niagara and Mercyhurst in that order. Coincidentally, if I was asked to list our three biggest rivals, those schools would no doubt be the three.
So, it seems there is no better way to wind down our regular season. Whether we end up earning a home playoff series or not, we need to gain some momentum going into the postseason. That momentum can start this week against RIT. We know how good of a team RIT can be but also know we have the ability to beat them, as we did earlier in the year.
Playing a home-and-home series, we know there will be a hostile environment for both games. RIT always brings a couple busloads of fans to Buffalo, and they consistently sell out at home. We would love to see some Canisius supporters at home Thursday to help quiet RIT!
C-BLOCK is offering a deal to all Canisius students to make a trip down the I-90 with us Saturday night. For $10, each student receives bus transportation to the game in Rochester, a game ticket, and pizza! Hockey games at RIT are a pretty neat experience and I'd recommend the trip to all fellow students. It is only an hour drive and will promise to be a good time with food, friends, and fast-paced hockey.
With RIT and Niagara coming up, we're looking forward to good games and rowdy crowds. As a senior, I couldn't ask for a better, more challenging stretch run. After coming out flat against Robert Morris this past Friday and bouncing back Saturday, the team should be ready from the puck drop the rest of the way. We haven't played well in a number of first periods this year but are determined to stomp out that problem.
Three weeks until playoffs. No excuses. No regrets.
Until next week, keep your head up.
