The Canisius College Athletic Department has announced that former NBA head coach and Canisius men's basketball assistant coach Stan Van Gundy will be speaking at the Cage Club Luncheon Dec. 4, at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo, located at Two Fountain Plaza in downtown Buffalo. The event will run from 12-1:30 p.m.

The cost for this event is $25 per person or $200 for a table of eight. The luncheon menu will feature a chef's salad, a chicken breast entrée and dessert. For reservations, fans are invited to click this link, or call (716) 888-2972. Parking for this event will be available at the Augspurger Ramp or at the Franklin/Pearl lot.

Van Gundy will be on hand to talk basketball, where he will be joined by Canisius head coach Jim Baron. Van Gundy played collegiately in Western New York for his father Bill at Brockport State. Upon graduation, he immediately landed a Division I assistant position at Vermont, where he coached against Canisius when both schools were members of the North Atlantic Conference. He was later hired by former Canisius head coach Nick Macarchuk as an assistant at Canisius before moving on to head coaching stints at UMass Lowell and Wisconsin. He parlayed that experience into a position under Pat Riley with the Miami Heat. Stan would go on to lead both the Heat and Orlando Magic recording 371 wins in seven-plus seasons and going 48-39 in seven playoff appearances. He is currently a college basketball analyst for the NBC Sports Network.

Baron was named the 23rd head coach in Canisius history on April 2, 2012. He is currently in his 26th season as a Division I head coach, having made stops at St. Francis (Pa.), his alma mater of St. Bonaventure and at Rhode Island. In his time as a head coach, the Brooklyn, N.Y., native has complied 390 career wins, 11 postseason berths and eight 20-win campaigns. He is one of two head coaches in league history to earn the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year award four or more times, joining Basketball Hall of Famer and former Temple head coach John Cheney as the only men to accomplish that feat. On Nov. 12, Baron became the first Canisius coach since Macarchuk to win his first game as the Griffs' head coach after the Blue and Gold beat Boston University at home by a score of 83-75.
