The Canisius track team will make its closest appearance to home of the 2014 season on Friday, when the Griffs head across town to take part in the Upstate Challenge at Buffalo.
The Griffs are coming off last weekend’s meet at the ROC City Invitational that saw Canisius take home victories in a pair of events both by way of new personal bests.
First, sophomore Michael Anvelt won the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:19.78, marking the second-consecutive week that a Canisius runner has taken home first place in the 5k. Freshman Jeff Antolos finished first the week prior at the University of Rochester Invite.
Freshman A.J. Stuver took home the second victory for the Blue and Gold, winning the 3000-meter steeplechase by more than 42 seconds. Stuver finished the event in 9:53.55.
The Griffs also had a strong performance in the men’s 1500-meter run with sophomore Travis Jordon, freshman Xavier Sauvageau and Antolos each racing to a top-six finish.
On the women’s side, Canisius’ top-relay team in the 3200-meter relay would have the strongest showing for the Griffs, racing to a second-place finish.
The Blue and Gold also got a strong race from junior Morgan Atkins in the 5000-meter run, racing to a seventh place finish in the event.
The Griffs will kick off their third meet in as many weeks at the Upstate Challenge at 1 p.m. on Friday.
