Women’s Soccer Set to Play Long-Time Rival

Coming off their first victory of the season, the Canisius women’s soccer team is set to travel to Olean, N.Y., as the team will take on long-time rival St. Bonaventure (1-2-0) on Sun. Aug. 31 at 1 p.m.

The Golden Griffins will look to continue their success, after the team beat Roberts Wesleyan, 1-0 on Wednesday evening. The Blue and Gold are 1-2-0 on the season.

Seniors Mallory Illsley and Brigid St. Leger have been leading the way for the Griffs, along with sophomore Kathleen Lawver. Illsley leads the team with 19 shots and St. Leger has been solid in goal for Canisius, posting a .833 save percentage to go along with a 0.94 goals against average. Lawver, who scored the game winner in double overtime against Roberts Wesleyan, leads the team with a .500 shot percentage and one goal.

For St. Bonaventure, the team comes in behind junior Abby Maiello, who leads the team with three points, a goal and an assist. Behind Maiello is freshman Danielle Vis who has a goal and two points this season.

The Griffs all-time record versus the Bonnies is 18-12-1, with the most recent victory coming during the 2011 season, as Canisius beat St. Bonaventure, 4-3.

After Sunday’s match, the Golden Griffins will travel to California to take on Pacific (Sep. 05) and Sacramento State (Sep. 07).
