Championship Recap
The Canisius indoor track program rounded out its season Sunday afternoon from the ECAC/IC4A Championship, breaking two school records for the second consecutive day.

The men’s distance medley relay team of senior Xavier Sauvageau, sophomore Paul Henry, sophomore Josh Sopchak and senior Cooper Roach broke their own school record, set a day earlier, finishing fourth in the finals event with a time of 9:53.26.

The men’s distance medley team sat in eighth place heading into the final leg of the race, but Roach summoned a gutsy performance to bring the Griffs all the way to the third position, before ultimately finishing fourth.

With the top four performance, the men’s DMR team earned All-East honors.

Also breaking a school record for the Griffs was the women’s distance medley relay team of junior Carlin Sullivan, junior Haylie Virginia, senior Haley Keene and sophomore Siobhan Quinn, becoming the first ever Canisius team to finish under twelve minutes, finishing eleventh at 11:54.20.

In breaking the school record, the team dropped its own record by 16 seconds.

For the weekend, the Griffs broke a total of three indoor school records, the men’s distance medley relay (twice), the women’s distance medley relay, and senior Jeff Antolos in the 5k event.

Head Coach Nate Huckle’s Comments
“This was the best all-around performance we have had on the track in my time at Canisius. Each time our student-athletes stepped on the track we came away with personal bests and records were broken.”

“The women stepped their performance up to another level in the DMR. They dropped 16 seconds from their own record, which is incredible.”

“On the men's side, they broke the school record twice in two days and finished All-East in fourth place. Cooper Roach turned in a heroic anchor leg, closing in a 4:03 mile to move us from eighth to third before finishing fourth. It was the greatest anchor performance I've seen from one of my athletes.”

Up Next
The Griffs will be off for the remainder of March, before starting the outdoor track season Saturday, April 1, at the SUNY Geneseo Invite in Geneseo, N.Y.
