The Canisius rowing program had all of its boats advance to the semifinal round of the Knecht Cup, with the varsity eight and the varsity four advancing on Saturday, and the second varsity eight moving on, on Sunday, in West Windsor, N.J. Despite not earning entry into the grand final, it was the first time that Canisius boats advanced at the prestigious regatta.
The day opened up with the second varsity eight heats, which were originally scheduled for Saturday, but high winds forced the regatta to reschedule for Sunday. The team of Kira Voyer, Bridget Lillis, Michelle Turner, Madeline Kurka, Molly Murphy, Emma Vicaretti, Jessica Fabian, Audrey Rieman, and Grace Horner finished the course with a time of 7:38.99 and placed fourth in their heat, earning the automatic berth.
In the varsity eight semifinals, Alexandra Heinz, Shannon Pritzker, Sydney Bichsel, Mackenzie App, Tara Federow, Patricia Beaulieu, Brooke Stanley, Kathryn Hobika, and Misa Gamble were unable to advance to the grand finals, coming in seventh in the first heat with a time of 7:11.29.
The varisty four was also unable to advance to the final round, coming in sixth in the third semifinal heat, Liz DelBarba, Chanel Davis, Melissa Frank, Erin Grim, and Kaitlyn Taylor, finishing the course with a time of 8:13.22.
The second varsity eight, after moving on to the semifinals clocked in with a time of 7:24.95, wich placed the team seventh and halted the boats progress towards a final.
Canisius will have an open weekend, Easter weekend, holding a scrimmage with Buffalo. The next official regatta is the team's home race, the Black Rock Cup, held on April 22 at the West Side Rowing Club.
