Baseball Comes up Short Against Youngstown State

The Canisius baseball team was only able to muster six hits as they fell to visiting Youngstown State 4-2 in a non-conference match-up Tuesday afternoon. With the loss Canisius drops to 23-16 on the season and the Penguins improve to 12-17 overall.

Freshman Carson Perkins (0-3) got the nod for the Griffs, lasting five innings, scattering five hits and fanning eight in the loss.

Redshirt junior Liam Wilson provided the offensive output as he finished 2-for-4, with two singles.

Canisius scored its first run in the bottom of the second inning when junior Cyrus Senior hit a ball that went through the legs of the Penguins’ third baseman, plating sophomore William Krull from third base.

The Griffs got two runners on in the bottom of third and scraped across their second run, as redshirt junior Tim Kensinger crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Mark McKenna.

The Penguins would tack on three runs in the top of the fifth by the way of three hits, a sacrifice fly and a Griffs fielding error.

The Blue and Gold head up I-190 tomorrow for an afternoon clash with MAAC rival Niagara at Sal Maglie Stadium in Niagara Falls, N.Y. First pitch is set for 4 pm. Tomorrow’s will not be counted as a conference contest. The two teams will meet again at the Demske Sports Complex May 18 and 19, for a three-game set to end the season.
