As the team took the field for its final midweek contest of the regular season, one Canisius outfielder was honored for his efforts last weekend, as Jake Burlingame was selected as the MAAC Rookie of the Week. Burlingame played a pair of contests against Manhattan and had four hits and four RBI.
Burlingame tallied a pair of hits in game one and game three, as Canisius went 2-1, continuing to push for the top two spots in the conference.
Burlingame also tallied a home run in each, scurrying home on an inside the park home run in the team's 16-5 win, and tallying a dinger in the finale. Also credited to the first-year outfielder is a .625 on base percentage and a 1.429 slugging mark.
Canisius readies for its final conference series of the regular season on Thursday as the squad hosts Niagara for a doubleheader (beginning at noon) and the finale on Friday (set for 1 p.m.). Canisius awaits the final weekend to find its seeding, hoping to place in one of the top-two spots and earn the first round bye.
Canisius and Niagara are co-hosting the 2017 MAAC baseball tournament this year, with the event set for May 24-27 at Sal Maglie Stadium in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
