Washington, Fletcher Added To Staff

Canisius women’s basketball coach Terry Zeh has announced the hiring of Cetera Washington as an assistant coach and Logan Fletcher as a graduate assistant. Washington was comes to Canisius after spending time at Michigan State and Fletcher was recently on the women’s basketball staff at SUNY Buffalo State.

“We are very excited for Cetera and Logan to join the Canisius family,” Zeh said. “Logan brings a tremendous work ethic and passion for the game of basketball.

“Cetera’s playing and coaching experience at Michigan State will be a great addition to our program. Her positive attitude and passion for the game of basketball is infectious.”

A 2011 graduate of Michigan State University, Washington has spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant with the Spartans after a four-year playing career in East Lansing, Mich. As a graduate assistant, Washington helped with recruiting, scouting and player development. She has also worked as a counselor at Michigan State’s summer camp as well as at Lansing Community College. 

A team captain as a senior and three-time winner of the program’s Spartan Hustle Award, Washington appeared in 135 career games and was named the program’s Most Improved Player after her sophomore season.

Washington, a native of Kalamazoo, Mich. set career highs as a senior in points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and minutes per game. Washington appeared in three NCAA Tournaments (including one Sweet 16) and also played in the championship game of the 2008 WNIT as a freshman. The Spartans also qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of her two seasons as a graduate assistant.

At Buffalo State, Fletcher was responsible for the breakdown of game film as well as the exchange of game film with opponents. Fletcher assisted in practice planning and game coaching with the Bengals. Buffalo State won the 2011-12 SUNYAC regular-season championship and a program-record 25 games.

Prior to his time at Buffalo State, Fletcher was the director of basketball operations at Herkimer County Community College where he helped with team travel, video scouting and practice planning. Fletcher also has served as a counselor at Camp Takajo where he developed and implemented a summer-long basketball daily skills program for more than 70 children. He coached four different travel teams at various tournaments. 

Washington replaces Jacey Brooks, who is now an assistant coach at Bowling Green State University.
