Canisius College head golf coach Todd Hummel announced the Golden Griffins’ 2013 fall schedule today, which features five tournaments, including the annual Little Three Championship. The fall portion of the 2013-14 slate is set to begin Labor Day weekend when the Blue and Gold travels to Verona, N.Y., to take part in the fifth annual Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate event.

The Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate will once again be played at the Kaluhyat Course at Turning Stone Resort. The course, which measures more than 7,100 yards, was voted one of the “Top-100 Best Resort Courses” by Golfweek in 2010. The University of Missouri will once again host the 54-hole event, with rounds 1 and 2 being played Sept. 1 and the third and final round teeing off Sept. 2.

Canisius will return to the annual Leo Keenan Invitational, hosted by St. Bonaventure, Sept. 16-17. This 36-hole event started in 1989 and will once again be played at the Bartlett Country Club in Olean, N.Y. The Griffs last played in the Leo Keenan Invitational during the 2007 fall season, where the team placed 11th in the field.

The following weekend, Canisius will head east on the New York State Thruway to play in the annual Cornell Invitational at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Ithaca, N.Y. This will mark the sixth-straight year that the Griffs have played in Cornell’s fall tournament, and last year, former Griff Mike Spiotta took third in the field in a rain-shortened event.

Canisius will defend its Little Three Championship on Sept. 28, as the Griffs meet local rivals Niagara and St. Bonaventure at Pine Acres Country Club in Bradford, Pa. The Griffs have won three consecutive Little Three Championships after posting a team score of 590 in 2012. Former Canisius golfer Michael Carrig won the 2012 Little Three Championship medalist award with his two-round tally of 140 and earned an automatic berth into the Porter Cup, which was held July 23-27, at Niagara Falls Country Club.

The fall portion of the Griffs’ schedule will wrap up Oct. 6-7 when the team plays in the second annual Binghamton Fall Invitational at the Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, N.Y. Last year, the host Binghamton Bearcats placed fifth in their own tournament, which featured 10 teams.

Canisius returns four letterwinners from last year’s roster. In addition to the program’s third-straight Little Three Championship, the Griffs took fourth place at the 2013 MAAC Golf Championship in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. That fourth-place finish was the Blue and Gold’s best effort at the conference’s championship event since 1997.
