Women's Soccer Prepares for Weekend Pair

After returning from its furthest road trip of the season, the women’s soccer team is looking to use its home field advantage to get back in the win column. Three of the Griffs’ final four non-conference contests will take place at Demske Sports Complex, the first of which coming Friday when they play host to Detroit. Canisius’ last road game prior to MAAC play will come Sunday at Northern Kentucky.

Two Griffs’ freshman recorded their first-career points in last weekend’s road trip.

Sabrina Fitzgerald scored the Griffs’ first goal off a corner kick in Canisius’ loss at Charleston Southern.
Callie Good recorded an assist on Canisius’ lone goal its 1-1 tie at The Citadel

Brianna Smith is just one goal shy of moving into a tie for third with Sheila Fassl on the Griffs’ all-time goal scoring list. She’s also only three goals behind Kelly Reinwald for second on the list.

• In addition, Smith needs just two points to tie for fourth on the all-time points list.

The Griffs and Titans met for the first time last season, with Detroit taking the game 4-0.

This will be the Griffs first time hosting the matchup, as last season’s contest was played in Detroit.

Detroit holds a record of 1-2-1 on the year and is coming off a 1-0 win at San Francisco.

• The Titans are led offensively by Anna Mindling and Haley Burtraw who each have two goals on the season.
• Martha Dunbar has started three of Detroit’s four games in net and currently holds a 1.84 GAA. She turned in five saves during a 2-1 loss to No. 18 California.

The Griffs and Norse met for the first time in 2012, which was Canisius’ season opener.

• Northern Kentucky took the contest 2-0 while outshooting the Griffs’ 14-7.

• Northern Kentucky holds a 1-2-1 record, having won their last contest over Tennessee Tech 1-0.

• Allison Ponzer leads the Norse offensively, having scored their only goal this season.
• Tanner Ruberg has started all four games in net this season, recording two shutouts so far. She currently holds a .95 GAA and has 23 saves.
