Volleyball Hosts Rival Buffalo On Tuesday Night

The Canisius volleyball team returns to the Koessler Athletic Center for its final non-conference game of the regular season and hosts cross-town rival the University at Buffalo on Tuesday night.

NOTING THE GRIFFS
  • Canisius won both of its matches in the Bucknell Invitational last weekend, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson in three sets and rallying from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the host Bison in five sets.
  • Canisius overcame a 2-0 deficit and won for the first time since Oct. 13, 2012, against Fairfield.
  • Senior Emily Elek was named Tournament MVP after averaging 2.75 kills per set and 0.62 blocks per set while posting a .246 attack percentage. 
  • Sophomore Lauren Siebert was also named to the All-Tournament Team after posting a 3.00 kills per set average, .455 attack percentage and 0.88 blocks per set average. Siebert had a career-high 19 kills in the win over Bucknell, including five kills on five attack attempts in the fifth set.
  • Freshman Jacklyn Malusa posted a double-double in each match last weekend, averaging 3.00 kills and 3.25 digs per set, and has three double-doubles on the season.
  • Canisius and Buffalo are meeting for the 63rd time, the second-most common opponent for the Griffs in program history.
  • The teams have split the last six meetings. Canisius won in four sets in the KAC in 2011, and Buffalo won in four sets last year a Alumni Arena.

BUFFALO SCOUT

  • Buffalo enters Tuesday's game with a 9-0 record, including wins over Temple, Davidson and Central Florida.
  • The Bulls are holding their opponents to an attack percentage of .071, the lowest percentage in the country.
  • Tahleia Bishop leads the team with 3.66 kills per set.
  • Kelly Svoboda ranks sixth in the country in digs per set (5.69).
  • Buffalo ranks third in the country in blocks per set (3.17). Amber Hatchett ranks fourth in the country at 1.66 blocks per set while Carissa McKenna is 33rd at 1.34 blocks per set.
