NOTING THE GRIFFS

  • The Canisius volleyball team concludes its five-match homestand this weekend, hosting Iona on Saturday, and Manhattan on Sunday.
  • Canisius snapped a two-match losing streak with a three-set sweep of rival Niagara University on Wednesday night. The Golden Griffins defeated the Purple Eagles for the first time since Nov. 15, 2008.
  • Canisius and Iona split the regular-season series last year, with each team winning at home.
  • Canisius and Manhattan split the regular-season series last year, with each team winning on the road
  • Canisius is averaging 3.03 blocks per set in the last four matches.
  • Freshman Katlyn Tyler has 25 digs (3.13 digs per set) in the last two matches.
  • In the last eight matches, sophomore Lauren Siebert is averaging 2.62 kills per set and 0.86 blocks per set to go along with a .377 attack percentage.
  • Senior Roxanne Hernandez has 40 blocks in the last seven matches, averaging 1.60 blocks per set during that stretch.
  • Senior Emily Elek has eight blocks in each of the last two matches.
  • Senior Jessica Warner recorded the final point in each set on Wednesday, posting a service ace in the first set and kills in the second and third sets.

SCOUTING THE WEEKEND'S OPPONENTS

  • Iona enters Saturday's match with a 5-10 overall record and 3-2 record in MAAC play. The Gaels have won four straight matches, including a four-set win over Fairfield last weekend.
  • Catrina Warren leads the MAAC at 3.57 kills per set while Natalie Ziskin is second in the conference at 10.00 blocks per set. 
  • Manhattan comes to Western New York with a 10-7 overall record and 4-1 record in the MAAC. The Jaspers have won five of their last six, including a three-set sweep of Fairfield.
  • Sydney Volovski is eighth in the MAAC in attack percentage while Ellie Wiekamp is seventh in kills per set. Allie Yamashiro is third in the conference in digs per set.
