The Canisius College women’s soccer team dropped the final regular season road contest of the year on Wednesday to Siena (8-6-1, 4-2-1 MAAC), by a score of 2-0.
The Saints netted the eventual game-winning goal in the 41st minute. Midfielder Ali Lewis found the ball on her foot deep in the box after a pair of quick passes from Andrea Pereira and Matar Rahamim. Lewis took an uncontested shot into the lower left side of the net to make the game 1-0.
Siena then added an insurance goal in the 71st minute after Maria Jones sent a through ball from 12 yards out. Forward Brittany Pfaff was able to take the pass and beat Griffs’ senior goalkeeper Megan Tock for the game’s second goal.
Tock had nine saves in the contest. It’s the sixth time this season that Tock has recorded eight or more saves.
The Griffs were out-shot in 21-10 in the game.
Canisius will return home to take on Quinnipiac on Saturday. Start time for that contest is 7:30 p.m.
Game Notes: Canisius has two remaining regular season games, both are at home where the Griffs are 3-5-0 this season… Tock entered the contest tied for eighth nationally in total saves… The Griffs have only played their next opponent Quinnipiac twice prior in school history… The Griffs have a 0-1-1 record all-time against Quinnipiac and the programs played to a 2-2 draw when they met in 2011.
