Canisius College cross country coach Nate Huckle was named MAAC Coach of the Year the conference announced at its awards banquet on Friday.
The award was voted on by the MAAC's 11 head coaches
In his second year at the helm, the men’s program tied it’s best finish in program history at the MAAC Championships and the best since 1995. The Canisius women tied their mark from last season, finishing sixth.
“The award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes,” Huckle said. “I’m honored that my peers in the conference think so highly of our program and my work as a coach.”
The cross country program has also performed well academically under Huckle as nine student athletes were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team at the banquet.
On the women’s team, the award was presented to seniors Mikelle Cala and Kaitlyn Coon, juniors Morgan Atkins and Brandi Pettit, as well as sophomore Robin Wagner.
Sophomore Michael Anvelt, and juniors Andrew Coy, Joe Schnitter and Chris Sauvageau earned the recognition from the men’s team.
In order to receive the award, student-athlete’s must be at least a sophomore and have a 3.2 cumulative GPA or better.
