QUICK HITTERS

  • The Canisius women’s basketball team plays its first road game of the conference schedule at Manhattan College on Sunday afternoon.
  • Canisius and Manahttan are meeting for the 53rd time in program history, with Canisius leading the series 29-23.
  • Canisius and Manhattan split the season series last year, with each team winning at home.
  • Canisius defeated Manhattan 63-47 in the Koessler Athletic Center on Feb. 22, 2013, ending a six-game losing streak to the Jaspers.
  • Manhattan has won the last four meetings between the teams in the Draddy Gymnasium, with the last Canisius win coming on Jan. 9, 2009, in a 67-59 victory.
  • The 2013-14 season will be the 25th year that the Golden Griffins have played in the MAAC.
  • Senior Jamie Ruttle was named to the preseason All-MAAC Third Team. It is the third time in Ruttle’s career that she has been selected to a preseason All-MAAC Team.
  • Canisius was picked to finish sixth of 11 teams in the MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.  

NOTING THE GRIFFS

  • As of Dec. 27, Canisius is tied for 10th in the country in assisted basket percentage (69.5).
  • Canisius has shot 40 percent or better in six games this season. The Griffs shot 40 percent or better five times in 31 games during the entire 2012-13 season.
  • Senior Jamie Ruttle ranks 21st in program history in points (999) and needs one point to become the 21st player in program history with 1,000 points. She has scored in double figures in six consecutive games.
  • Senior Jen Morabito Morabito ranks sixth in program history in career 3-pointers (180) and is second in 3-point field goal percentage (37.5).
  • Senior Jen Lennox is third in the program’s Division I history with 88 blocks.
  • Junior Kayla Hoohuli, has taken seven charges in the last seven games and 34 charges in her career. Hoohuli is the only player in the MAAC to make a 3-pointer in each game this season.

NOTES FROM THE DEC. 21 LOSS TO QUINNIPIAC

  • Senior Jamie Ruttle posted her fourth career double-double and played in her 100th career game. 
  • Sophomore Jasmine Mungo made her first career start.
  • Freshman Tamara Miskovic recorded a career-best five assists.
  • The Griffs shot over 40 percent for the sixth time this season in 10 games. 

MANHATTAN SCOUT

  • Manhattan opens MAAC play with an 1-8 record. The Jaspers opened the season with a 73-63 win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
  • All eight of the Jaspers’ losses have been by double digits.
  • Manhattan went 8-23 last season and 4-14 in the MAAC. The Jaspers were picked to finish 10th in the MAAC in the preseason coaches poll.
  • Manhattan ranks fourth in the MAAC in field goal percentage (40.2) and third in steals per game (7.1).
  • Monica Roeder leads the team at 10.4 points per game. Kayla Grimme is fourth in the MAAC in rebounds per game (7.1). Shayna Ericksen leads the MAAC in field goal percentage (57.1). Allison Skrec is third in the MAAC in assists per game (5.8).
  • Manhattan is turning the ball over on 25.2 percent of its possessions and averaging 18.0 turnovers per game to go along with a -3.3 turnover margin. The Jaspers have a 29.7 offensive rebounding percentage and a 54.0 defensive rebounding percentage to go along with a -10.8 rebounding margin.
  • Manhattan is making 6.1 3-pointers per game and shooting 30.1 percent as a team. Nicole Isaacs leads the team at 2.7 3-pointers per game.
  • John Olenowski is in his fifth season at Manhattan. Olenowski led Manhattan to a school-record 24 victories in 2010-11 and to two postseason appearances (2011 and 2012).
