The Canisius men’s basketball team jumped eight spots to No. 14 in this week’s Men’s Mid-Major Top-25 poll at CollegeInsider.com. The Golden Griffins moved to 16-7 overall and 10-2 in MAAC play last week with a pair of road wins at Quinnipiac and Fairfield.
The Griffs received 331 votes this week to move to No. 14, which makes the Blue and Gold the highest rated MAAC team in the weekly poll. Manhattan, Canisius next opponent, is currently ranked No. 15 and Iona, Canisius opponent on Sunday, is receiving votes this week. Canisius is rated 83rd in the latest NCAA RPI report, released Feb. 3, and the No. 14 rank in the Mid-Major Top-25 poll is the highest for the program in school history.

The Griffs are currently a half-game ahead of Iona in first place atop the MAAC standings, making this year’s team the first since the 1996-97 team to be in first place of the league standings in the month of February. Canisius defeated Fairfield 84-58 Feb. 1 on the road, the program’s largest MAAC road victory, and the back-to-back double-digit road wins over Quinnipiac and Fairfield last week marks the first time the Blue and Gold have won back-to-back road conference games by 10-plus points since 1997.
