The Canisius athletic department announced today that Friday’s nationally-broadcasted basketball games from the Koessler Athletic Center will feature a “Gold Rush”. All fans are asked to wear gold to support both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, and the first 2,000 fans in the door will receive a special “Gold Rush” T-shirt, compliments of Try-It Distributing, Tim Hortons and ADPRO.
The women’s team will start the basketball doubleheader Friday afternoon when the team meets long-time rival Niagara at 4 p.m. in the Koessler Athletic Center. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3. The women’s team is 8-13 overall and 4-8 in MAAC play. This will mark the 84th all-time meeting between the two Western New York rivals. Friday is Canisius’ “Play4Kay” game, and the first 150 female fans in the building will receive a special Canisius pink knit hat, compliments of New Era.
The Canisius men’s team will ride a four-game winning streak into its home contest with Manhattan, which will tipoff at 7 p.m., and be broadcast live on ESPNU. This will be the Griffs’ first national TV game in the Koessler Athletic Center since the 2010-11 season. Canisius is 16-7 overall and 10-2 in MAAC play after the team went on the road and defeated Quinnipiac and Fairfield last weekend. The Griffs are 8-0 at home this season and 20-4 in the Koessler Athletic Center under second-year head coach Jim Baron.A limited number of tickets for Friday’s home games, as well as Sunday’s men’s game against Iona, are on sale now through the Canisius Ticket Office.
