Junior midfielder Tim Edwards was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Canisius College men’s lacrosse team split a pair of games against Air Force and No. 5 Denver at the Frontier Airlines Face-Off Classic.
Named to the All-Tournament Team, Edwards led the Griffs at the faceoff X during the weekend. The junior won 21-of-30 restarts in the two games for a .700 winning percentage. He collected 10-of-14 faceoffs (71.4 percent) in addition to a career-best nine ground balls in a tight 7-6 victory against Air Force on Saturday. Edwards then followed by claiming 11-of-16 faceoffs on Sunday against the nationally-ranked Pioneers to go along with one goal and seven ground balls.
In three games during the 2014 season, Edwards has recorded five points, two goals and three assists. He leads the Griffs with his three assists, while also dominating at the faceoff X. Edwards currently ranks third nationally by winning 74.4 percent of his restarts (32-of-43) and places 16th in the country with 8.00 ground balls per game.
Edwards and the Griffs return to action on March 4 with a road contest against nationally-ranked Cornell. Canisius and the No. 16 Big Red are set to square off in Ithaca at 4 p.m.
