The Canisius swimming and diving team will swim in its first meet in nearly a month when it hosts Gannon on Saturday.
The Griffs last competed against Fredonia on December 14, and swept the Blue Devils, winning 173-110 on the women’s side, while the men took the meet 175-116.
In the time between the two meets, the team embarked on a training trip to Florida, where the team worked on strength training as well as scrimmaged the University of Arkansas Little Rock.
“We put a lot of work in during our training trip, mostly strength work,” said head coach Scott Vanderzell. “We’re looking forward to seeing how it pays off in terms of our power during the races. I thought the team came together and bonded real well. It gave us an opportunity to get out of our comfort zone and challenge ourselves.”
The Knights come into the meet with the women holding a 7-2 record and the men sitting at 3-3 in dual meets this season.
“Like every other team this time of year they’re coming off a training trip, so you don’t know what to expect,” Vanderzell said. “I know they’ve got some kids who are trying to get to their conference championship times, so hopefully we bring our A game.”
The meet is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Due to Gannon not having divers, Canisius’ divers will take to the boards at 8:30 a.m. to be scored in an exhibition.
