Two members of the Canisius College swimming and diving team were honored with the MAAC Swimmer of the Week Award, the conference announced on Tuesday. Junior Marissa Oakey was named Female Swimmer of the Week and freshman Wyatt Sintay was named Male Swimmer of the Week for their performances in Saturday’s sweep of Gannon.
Oakey swam her way to a pair of individual victories in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles. She completed the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.91, and the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:17.54. Oakey would close out the meet by swimming on the third leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished first.
Sintay swam his way to a Koessler Athletic Center Pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing the event in 2:09.42 – which was good for a first place finish. Earlier in the meet, Sintay swam to a first place finish in the 200-yard IM, finishing more than four seconds ahead of the competition in a time of 1:59.25. Sintay also swam the breaststroke in the 400-yard medley relay that finished second.
Oakey, Sintay and the Griffs return to action on Saturday against Niagara in the team’s final meet prior to the MAAC Championship. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Burt Flickenger Center at E.C.C.
