After competing in a dual with Geneseo on Saturday afternoon, men and women divers from the Canisius College swimming and diving team traveled to Clarion University on Sunday afternoon to compete in Clarion Diving Invite.  Freshmen Eddie Quarantillo and Taylor Epstein finished in the top five of the men and women's 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, respectively.

At the Invite, the Golden Griffins competed against divers from host Clarion, Youngstown State, and Findlay.

"Competing at the Clarion Diving Invite gives our team the opportunity to elevate the level of competition for the divers," said Canisius diving coach Meili Carpenter. "Clarion is a strong diving program, consistently producing Division II national champions. In order to be the best, you have to compete against the best".

Quarantillo captured fifth in both the men's 1-meter (247.50) and in the 3-meter (216.05). The freshman was joined by sophomores Jake and Joel Kowalski, and junior Alex Pason.

In the 1-meter event, Pason finished sixth (185.05) while brothers Jake and Joel came in eighth (178.15) and ninth (168.15), respectively. Jake Kowalski, Pason, and Joel Powalski finished seventh (183.05), eighth (181.5), and ninth (177.7), respectively in the 3-meter dive.

On the women's side, Epstein took home third place in the 3-meter (203.75) and fifth place in the 1-meter (194.75). Joining Epstein were senior Amina Benman and junior Alexa Gigliotti.

Benman finished sixth in the 3-meter (195.8) and ninth in the 1-meter (164.55). Gigliotti occupied eleventh place in both the 1-meter (163.45) and 3-meter (158.25).

" The Invite allowed our divers to physically and mentally for a multiple day meet, such as MAACs," said Carpenter. "This was a tough weekend for the divers, traveling straight from Geneseo to Clarion, but it was a great learning opportunity and they will be tougher competitors at MAACs for it."

The Golden Griffins will be off for the next two weeks. The team will return to action on Nov. 6 when they take on Marist College at the Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College, the site of the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Feb. 16-18.
