The Canisius College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by St. Bonaventure on Friday evening at the Reilly Center Pool. The Golden Griffin men fell to the Bonnies, 153-89, while the women dropped a 141-101 decision to the Bonnies. Freshman Marissa Oakey captured a pair of first-place finishes and senior Steve Pochatko and junior Shawn Parkhurst each placed first in an event for the men's squad.
In the 200 freestyle, Oakey took the top spot with a first-place time of 1:56.28. Oakey also took home the top spot in the 500 freestyle, pacing the Bonnies' Rachel Bull by six seconds with a time of 5:09.51.
Sophomore Anna Schena scored a season-best time of 1:00.62 in the 100 butterfly for a third-place finish. In the 100 backstroke, senior Kara Powalski finished fourth with a season-best of 1:04.80.
With a time of 1:41.92 in the 200 freestyle relay, the team of junior Annelise Gunn-Taylor, Powalski, Oakey, and sophomore Leah Villari placed first to record the Golden Griffins' second best time of the season.
In the 1-meter dive, senior Amina Benman finished with a season-best score of 195.22 for a second-place finish.
For the men, senior Steve Pochatko and junior Shawn Parkhurst led the way for the Golden Griffins. Parkhurst pulled in the top spot in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.98, while Pochatko set a season-best of 48.12 in his second-place finish in the 100 freestyle.
Pochatko joined senior Adam Calandra, freshman Nick Sereday, and junior Mike Disco in the 200 freestyle relay to post the squad's season-best performance with a first-place time of 1:28.51.
Junior Tyler Carver (1:01.23), freshman Sam Hansen (1:02.35), and sophomore Andrew Edbauer (1:03.19) occupied in the top-three spots of the 100 breaststroke.
After spending two months on the road, the Golden Griffins will close out their 2011-12 campaign at home. Both squads will host Boston College at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool on Friday, Jan. 13.
