Following their dual with Boston College on Friday morning, the Canisius College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were back to work at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Griffin men dominated Gannon University, 148-86, to pick up their fifth dual victory of the season. In the women's double-dual, Canisius toppled MAAC opponent Siena, 74-39, to collect their first conference win over the Saints, while falling, 59-54, to Gannon.

For the second-consecutive season, the Golden Griffins captured a victory over Gannon and this year's win was quite a decisive one. The Golden Griffin men came together as a team, dominating in the water and on the diving board.

Freshman Eddie Quarantillo recorded his best day as a Golden Griffin on both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards. In his personal-best 3-meter board performance, Quarantillo set the pool record with a first-place finish of 299.70. Quarantillo continued his strong performance in the 1-meter event, posting a score of 247.25.

In back-to-back duals, a relay team has captured a victory for the Golden Griffins. This time it was the pool record-setting 200-medley relay team of senior Steve Pochatko, juniors Tyler Carver and Matt Moessinger, and freshman Nick Sereday with a first-place time of 1:36.65.

With a victory in the 1000 freestyle on Friday versus Boston College, freshman Sam Hansen found himself on top again with a time of 10:03.41.

Juniors Shawn Parkhurst and Corey Petrie kept Golden Griffins rolling with a one-two finish in the 200 freestyle. Again, Parkhurst (1:55.84) would combine with a fellow Griff to take the top two spots, this time in the 200 fly with Moessinger (2:00.14).

In the 100 freestyle, the Golden Griffins kept its string of one-two finishes, as Sereday (49.12) and senior Adam Calandra (50.04).

Besides being a part of the record-setting 200 medley relay team, Moessinger finished first in the 200 IM (1:59.67).

Pochatko snagged a pair of first-place finishes in the 200 backstroke (1:55.48) and 50 freestyle (22.28).

On the women's side, the Golden Griffins displayed a strong overall performance in the double-dual versus Siena and Gannon. Following a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay that was decided by seven-tenths of a second, sophomore Anna Schena secured the Golden Griffins' top-finish of the afternoon in the 1000 freestyle (10:56.42). Later in the meet, Schena took first in the 200 fly (2:13.92).

Freshman Marissa Oakey continued her success in the freestyle events with first-place finishes in the 200 (1:56.50) and 500 (5:10.94), which she set the pool record.

The Golden Griffins' dominance on the diving boards carried over to the women's side, as senior Amina Benman swept both the 1-meter (210.85) and 3-meter (223.00) events.

The Golden Griffins' 400-freestyle relay team of senior Kara Powalski, junior Annelise Gunn-Taylor, sophomore Leah Villari, and Oakey ended the team's performance on a positive note, setting the pool record with their first-place effort of 3:40.76.

The last time both the Golden Griffin men and women competed on back-to-back days at home was on Dec. 9 and 10 in 2006. On Dec. 9, both squads swept New Jersey Institute of Technology however, both fell the next day to St. Bonaventure.

Following this weekend's homestand, the Canisius men's and women's teams will welcome Little Three rival Niagara into the Koessler Athletic Center Pool on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
