12 Griffs Receive MAAC All-Academic Honors

A total of 12 members of the Canisius College men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been named to the MAAC All-Academic Team as announced by the conference on Thursday evening at the ECC Burt Flickinger Center, home of the 2012 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Among the 12 Griffs to be named to the team, seven were from the women's team and five from the men's team.

Representing the men's team were juniors Tyler Carver, Robby Novak, Shawn Parkhurst, and sophomores Andrew Edbauer and Adam Swift. For the second time in their career, Parkhurst, Carver, and Novak received the all-conference honor.

For the women's team, seniors Amina Benman and Kara Powalski received their third selection to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Sophomores Kelli Garber, Maggie DeMarco, and Julie Strychalski, junior Annelise Gunn-Taylor, and senior Kristen Toellner each earned their first honors.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must achieve at least a 3.2 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
