Softball Taken Down by DePaul and UNLV

The Canisius softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday on the final day of the Titan Classic in Fullerton, Calif. The Golden Griffins lost to DePaul 1-0 in the first game before falling to UNLV by the score of 9-3. Canisius is now 3-12 on the season.

In the loss to UNLV (10-16), the Blue and Gold jumped out to an early 3-0 lead through two innings with a single run in the first and a pair of runs in the second. The Rebels scored a run in the top of the third and then took the lead for good with a four-run fourth. Freshman Jessica Berzins had two hits and drove in a run in the loss to UNLV, while junior Michelle DelPrice added a pair of hits as well.

DePaul pitchers Mary Connolly and Kristen Verdun combined to allow just three hits in the first game against Canisius and the Blue Demons earned the 1-0 win. The game's only run came in DePaul's half of the fifth when the Blue Demons were able to puch a run acorss thanks to a Canisius error.

The Griffs will return to action March 17, when the team meets Cal State Fullerton in a single, non-league game at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif. Game time is set for 8 p.m. (Eastern)
