The Canisius softball team went on the road and closed out its MAAC weekend by splitting a doubleheader at Saint Peter's. The host Peacocks scored a 1-0 win in the first game on a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh, but the Golden Griffins bounced back to take game two by a 3-0 count. Canisius is now 11-23 overall and 2-6 in MAAC play, while Saint Peter's moved to 7-27 overall and 3-5 in league games.

Canisius senior pitcher Jen Consaul earned her team-leading 10th win of the season in the circle for the Blue and Gold after she went the distance and fanned seven while scattering five hits for her third shutout of the season. Canisius took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI-single to right from junior Robin Kennery that allowed freshman Jessica Berzins to score from second base. In the seventh, Canisius tacked on two insurance runs for Consaul on the power of an RBI-single by sophomore Alexis Roman and an RBI-double by Kennery. Consaul retired Saint Peter's in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory, and it also marks her 21st complete game of the season in 23 starts.

The Griffs collected 12 hits in the second game of the twinbill, with Roman and Kennery posting three hits each. Freshman Lindsey Silfer had two hits and Berzins scored two runs as the Blue and Gold ended its three-game losing streak.

In the first game, Canisius lost to the Peacocks 1-0 on a walk-off homer by junior Nicole Olmedo. The loss ended Canisius' 15-game winning streak in the series against Saint Peter's, which dated back to the 2006 campaign. The Griffs had six hits in the losing cause, led by Silfer, who had two hits. Sophomore Meghan Cuda had her first triple of the year in game one, while Berzins, Roman, Kennery and senior Valorie Nappo had base hits as well. Freshman Crystal Carlucci earned the win for Saint Peter's after she went the distance and gave up no runs on six hits. Consaul took the loss for Canisius after she allowed one run on three hits while striking out five.

Canisius will return home Wednesday, April 16, when the team hosts Robert Morris. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
