The Canisius College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have announced their 2014-2015 schedule. Head coach Scott Vanderzell announced the schedule that will include two home meets at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool.
The Golden Griffins will open up the season on the road as they take on Marist on Oct. 17, followed by the University of Rochester Invite, which will take place on Oct. 25 – 26. After the two away meets, the Griffs will head home for back-to-back home duals against Geneseo (Nov. 1) and little three rival St. Bonaventure (Nov. 15).
The Griffs will host Colgate on Nov. 22 at the Erie Community College Burt Flickinger Center, before participating in four straight road contests which include, Cleveland State (Dec. 2), Fredonia (Dec. 13), Buffalo (Dec. 18) and Gannon (Jan. 10).
After the four road duals, Canisius will host Niagara at the Erie Community College Burt Flickinger Center on Jan. 17, which will be the last regular season meet before the MAAC Championships.
The Golden Griffins will host the 2014-2015 MAAC men’s and women’s swimming and diving championship at the Flickinger Center from Feb. 11 – 14, marking the fifth consecutive conference championship in downtown Buffalo, N.Y. The championship will feature a new four-day format instead of the previous three-day format.
Canisius returns 42 swimmer and divers, 25 men and 17 women, from last year's teams that finished third in the 2013 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships, including diver Edward Quarantillo. Quarantillo was the first diver in Canisius history to qualify for the NCAA Regionals on both boards.
The Griffs will also be welcoming 12 newcomers for the upcoming season, six for each squad.
