Richard Mazuca ('50, MD '58) - Richard was the third Mazuca brother to play football for the Griffs, his older brothers Bob and Vince having preceded him on the field. World War II interrupted his college career in 1943, but after three years of service in the Army Air Corps, in 1946 he returned to campus and to his place on the football team. In 1946 and 1947 he was named All-Little Three Guard and All-Western New York Guard. As a senior he was selected team captain, leading the Griffs to a 7-2 record and winning the Little Three Championship. Mazuca was offered tryouts with both the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers, but declined to become a teacher and coach at Eden High School, West Seneca, and his alma mater, Grover Cleveland High School, where he served from 1959 until his retirement in 1974.
