Michael Christel '83 - A four-year letter winner in cross country and track, Christel was named first team Academic All-American in 1983, one of only three first team selections in Canisius history at the time of his induction. Held the schools record for 800 meters (2:03.1) and still holds the 1000-meter mark (2:29.15) for indoor track. Christel held the outdoor standards for 800 meters (1:56.4), the mile competition (4:29.41) and 1500 meters (4:02.8). At the time of his graduation in 1983, Christel had set the school mark in cross country for 4.6 miles at 23:20. After his graduation from the College, Christel went on to receive a graduate and doctoral degree in Information and Computer Science from Georgia Tech, where he recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA, and began his teaching career with Carnegie Mellon University.
