Bob MacKinnon B.A. ’50, M.S. ‘60 – A four-year player for the Griffs, MacKinnon led the team in his senior year as captain. In his junior season he was named to Notre Dame’s all-opponent team and the All Memorial Auditorium team. As a senior MacKinnon was again named to the All Memorial Auditorium team, as well as Sporting News Second Team All American, and Little Three MVP. He scored 228 points for the Griffs just in his senior year. MacKinnon was also the captain and starting third baseman on the baseball team.

Upon graduation Mackinnon signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers and played with Quebec in the Canadian-American League and Billings in the Pioneer League. He also played one season of professional basketball with the Utica Club of the American League in Syracuse. MacKinnon took his first head-coaching job with Canisius High School in 1951 and held a 36-2 record through two seasons.

In 1953 MacKinnon accepted a position with Canisius College as the Baseball Coach, Intramural Director, Freshman Basketball Coach, and Assistant Varsity Coach.  He was promoted to Athletic Director and Varsity Basketball Head Coach in 1958. In his 305 games as head coach, MacKinnon ranks second in most wins with 142, and leads all Canisius coaches with the highest number of games coached. In 1963 MacKinnon was lauded as Eastern Coach of the Year in Basketball, and was named Coach of the Year in Western New York in 1963 and 1964.  He coached with the Golden Griffins until 1972.
