We will travel to UConn this weekend to see which team will bring the game they need to move on to the second round. The first round is a best-of-three series with games Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if necessary. Playoffs offer a different brand of hockey. While teams "give their all" during the regular season, it seems guys possess an extra gear come playoff time. The shifts are shorter, hits are harder, and intensity is higher. Nobody wants their season to be over and it's that fear that motivates players and teams to do anything to win.
I would like to send a thank you to those who attended the Senior Banquet this past Sunday. Dan Morrison and I have had such a great experience at Canisius and much of it was because of the support of the people who were with us Sunday. The banquet is a great tradition and an excellent time to reflect on four years of memories. It's also a good time to tell some jokes and stories that may have been waiting a long time to come out! It was a great event and a special thank you goes out to Pat Massaro for his work in setting up the festivities.
Yet, though the banquet can get emotional we know there is still work to be done. Our beards are growing as is the anticipation for the weekend. UConn will offer a stiff test but one I know the team will be ready for. It's playoff time in college hockey and though it may be my last go ‘round, I've never been so excited to get it started.
Until next week, keep your head up.
