Nine players scored for the Canisius women's lacrosse team in a 21-6 win over LIU Brooklyn at the Demske Sports Complex on Thursday afternoon. The Golden Griffins win their first home game of the season and for the third time in the last four games to even their record at 3-3 on the season.

Freshman Caroline Ogden and sophomore Tori Quinn each had six points for the Griffs as Ogden posted a team-high three assists. Senior Morgan Leonard had five points, joining Quinn with four goals apiece on the day. Junior Maria Kotas scored three goals while senior Lindsay Morgan and sophomore Meghan Cuddy each scored twice.

Leonard had five draw controls, two ground balls and two cause turnovers while Kotas posted three draw controls and two caused turnovers.

"We got off to a great start, but I have to give credit to Long Island for sticking with us throughout that entire game without having any subs. We had to battle in the second half," Canisius coach Scott Teeter said. "We need to continue to work on minimizing our unforced mistakes, especially with a good Duquesne team awaiting us on Sunday."

The Griffs scored two goals in the first minute of the game and eight of the first nine goals in the game. Kotas scored 26 seconds into the game and Quinn then scored on a free-position goal just 32 seconds later. Freshman Brenna Murray scored on a free-position goal just over five minutes into the game and then Quinn scored her second of the day.

Leonard had back-to-back tallies to make it 6-1, and Quinn completed her hat trick less than a minute later. Ogden had her first goal of the day 45 seconds later to put Canisius up by eight. Sophomore Whitley Perry and Kotas scored to make it 10-2 before sophomore Natalie Wagaman had her first goal of the season with 6:05 left in the half. Ogden scored 19 seconds later to put Canisius up by 10. The Griffs then had four goals in the final 4:12 of the first half, including two goals in the final 16 seconds, taking a 16-3 lead into the locker room.

Leonard scored back-to-back goals again for the Griffins, including her fourth goal of the day just 24 seconds into the second half, to put Canisius up by 14 before the Blackbirds scored three straight goals to make it 17-6. The Griffs tallied the final four goals of the game, with Kotas and Ogden completing their hat tricks, for the final margin.

Senior Gina Molfetta recorded her first win of the season in her first start, making three saves on the afternoon.

Canisius continues its five-game homestand on Sunday afternoon when the Golden Griffins host Duquesne. Game time at the Demske Sports Complex is set for 3 p.m.

Notes: The 21 goals for the Griffs are a season high and the most since they scored 22 against Howard on March 22, 2008... The six points for Ogden are the most by a Canisius freshman since Taylor Gray had six points in a win against Manhattan on April 20, 2008. Ogden had three points in the first five games of the season combined... The Griffs have allowed 18 total goals in their three wins while allowing 45 goals in their three losses.
