After spending one season with the Canisius College hockey program, Tyler Walsh was named an intern assistant coach for the U.S. National Under-17 Team, part of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, for the 2014-15 season, announced on Monday.
Walsh spent the 2013-14 season as the Griffs’ Director of Hockey Operations, helping the program to its second-straight Atlantic Hockey Championship Game appearance. At Canisius, Walsh was responsible for coordinating the program’s video efforts, managing all aspects of travel and assisting with the team’s community outreach programs and fundraising.
The East Lansing, Mich. native joined the Griffs after spending three seasons as a student assistant coach and video coordinator at Maine. He has also served as a video coordinator for USA Hockey at the 2012 U16 and U17 Select Festival in Rochester, New York.
Walsh was part of a Canisius program that has advanced to the Atlantic Hockey Championship in each of the last two seasons, winning the program’s first title in 2013. The Griffs are now set to enter a new era this season when they begin play at the HARBORCENTER – a $172 million multipurpose hockey and entertainment complex that sits directly across from the First Niagara Center.
