Six members of the Canisius College men's soccer team were honored by Upper 90 Magazine, which selected the top players and coaches in Western New York.

Senior Gavin Falconer was named Offensive Player of the Year, as well as earning first-team All-Western New York accolades, while head coach Dermot McGrane was named Co-Coach of the Year. In addition, junior Will Hudson and sophomore Denver Spearman earned first-team accolades, sophomore Asani Samuels was named to the second team and freshman Alex De Carolis earned third-team distinction. The Griffs' five student-athletes honored are tied for the most selected by the publication.

Falconer became the first Griff to collect first-team all-region accolades earlier in the week, being named to the NSCAA All-North Atlantic First Team. Also a member of the All-MAAC First Team, Falconer led the Griffs with 26 points, 10 goals and six assists in 2012. He placed fifth in the program's record book with his 10 goals this season, while his 26 points place seventh and his six assists are ninth.

A native of Waterford, Ireland, Falconer finished the campaign third in the MAAC in points, goals and assists. He also ranked 20th nationally in points per game (1.53) and 31st in goals per game (0.59).

Hudson ranked second on the squad with 13 points, five goals and three assists in 2012. The junior netted a hat trick in the win against St. Francis, becoming the first Griff to score three goals in a game since 1999. During his three years at Canisius, Hudson has totaled 17 points, six goals and five assists.

Spearman anchored the Canisius midfield in his second season, totaling nine points, three goals and three assists in just 14 games for the Griffs. The Camlachie, Ontario native has posted 15 points, five goals and five assists during his two years at Canisius.

A sophomore forward, Samuels was one of just seven underclassmen to earn All- North Atlantic honors, being selected the third team by the NSCAA. Samuels recorded eight points and four goals in 2012, stretching the opponent's defense up top as the team's lone forward.

The final Griff to earn All-Western New York accolades, De Carolis was also named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team following the season. A defender, De Carolis totaled seven points, three goals and one assist in 17 games as a rookie, leading all Canisius freshmen in scoring. He also helped anchor four shutouts on the year, one shy of the school record.

McGrane guided the Griffs to one of the most successful seasons in the program's history in just his second year at Canisius. The team received votes in the national poll for the first time in school history and reached as high as second in the NSCAA North Atlantic poll. In addition, Canisius finished the campaign with eight wins (tied for the most in school history against Division I competition) and over .500 for the first time since 1987.
