The Canisius College men's soccer team concluded the 2011 MAAC regular season at Niagara on Friday evening, falling to its rival, 2-0. The Griffs are now 4-12-1 on the season and finish conference play with a 2-6-1 mark, while the Purple Eagles improve to 9-4-4 and 4-2-3 against MAAC foes.

"I'm proud of the way our team played today," said Canisius head coach Dermot McGrane. "I thought we played really well but unfortunately, a couple of calls did not go our way tonight."

Carl Haworth scored both goals for the Purple Eagles in the victory. He netted his 11th goal of the season in the 35th minute of play, scoring via a penalty kick after a hand ball was called on the Griffs in the box. Haworth then added his 12th tally from a free kick in the 54th minute.

Canisius, who finished with an 18-13 edge in shots on the evening, had a number of near misses in the contest. The Griffs' best chances came in the first half when junior Paul Klopfer just missed with an attempt in the 27th minute and junior Gavin Falconer had his free kick saved in the final minute of the opening period.

Ryan Arvin and Brett Petricek both finished with four saves on the night for Canisius and Niagara, respectively.

The Griffs wrap up the 2011 regular season on Sunday with a non-conference matchup with Cleveland State. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
