Menís Soccer Battles Marist and Siena

The Canisius College men's soccer team will attempt to get back to its winning ways this weekend with a pair of MAAC games against Marist and Siena. The Griffs and Red Foxes are set to battle on Friday at 7 p.m., while playing at Siena on Sunday at 1 p.m.

• As the season starts to wind down, the Griffs are focusing on trying to qualify for the four-team MAAC Tournament and if Canisius has any plans for tournament, they need to make its move now.
• Canisius enters the weekend seven points behind fourth place with six games to go.
• The good news for the Griffs is that the schedule eases up down the line. The three teams Canisius has already played are 7-2-2 (.727 winning percentage), while the six remaining opponents are 10-12-0 (.455 winning percentage).
• Marist is currently tied for sixth in the MAAC standings with three points, while the Saints are tied for first with nine points.

• Senior Gavin Falconer added to his scoring total last weekend and continues to rank among the nation's best.
• Falconer currently places 14th in the country this season with nine goals, while ranking 16th with 21 points.
• In addition, Falconer's nine goals are the tied for eighth in the program's single-season record book

• In 16 all-time meetings between the two schools, Marist holds an 11-4-1 advantage against the Griffs in a series that dates back to 1996.
• Canisius, however, holds a 3-1-1 edge in the last five meetings between the two MAAC foes.
• Last season, the teams played to a scoreless draw. Ryan Arvin recorded six saves for the Griffs to post his first collegiate shutout.

• Marist is 5-7-1 on the season, including a 1-3-0 record against MAAC foes.
• Stephan Brossard leads the team with 18 points, seven goals and four assists this season.
• Evan Southworth ranks second on the Red Foxes with nine points (4g, 1a), while Wes Finch has chipped in eight points and is tied for the team lead with four assists.
• Anthony Sokalski has played every minute in goal for Marist, posting a 1.41 goals against average and .743 save percentage.

• In a series that dates back to the 1987 season, Siena holds a 13-10-1 edge against the Griffs.
• Canisius has controlled the series as of late, winning seven of the last 10 meetings between the two schools.
• Last season, the Griffs earned a 2-1 overtime victory against the Saints behind an overtime goal from Gavin Falconer.

• Siena enters the weekend with a 7-6-0 record, including a 3-1-0 mark against MAAC competition.
• The Saints suffered their first conference loss of the season on Sunday to Loyola, ending a three-game winning streak.
• Sindre Ek leads the Saints with 21 points and nine goals during the 2012 campaign.
• Daniel Alderstad has registered a team-leading five assists.
• Damian Liesemann has played every minute in goal with a 1.35 goals against average and .667 save percentage.
