Junior forward Asani Samuels of the Canisius College men’s soccer team collected all-region accolades for the second-straight season, earning National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-North Atlantic Second Team honors.
Samuels, who was named to the NSCAA All-North Atlantic Region Third Team as a sophomore, is just the second player in the program’s history to earn all-region honors twice in his career. Former standout Alan McGreal also accomplished the feat, collecting second-team accolades in 2006 and third-team honors in 2009.
The Savanna la Mar, Jamaica native matched a career high with eight points on three goals and two assists in his junior campaign, stretching the opponent’s defense as the team’s lead forward. He also became just the second Griff in the program’s history to net two overtime goals in the same season, leading Canisius to wins against Bucknell and Siena.
During his career, Samuels has totaled 19 points, eight goals and three assists in 54 career games. He was also named to the All-MAAC Second Team following the 2013 season.
The Griffs finished the 2013 campaign with a 7-9-2 overall record, placing sixth in the MAAC with 10 points during conference play. Canisius’ 15 wins in the last two seasons are tied for the most in any two-year span in the program’s history.
