The Canisius women’s basketball team will be joining forces with Alice’s Army at its game against Marist College on Sunday, Jan. 19. Tipoff in the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 3 p.m.

Alice’s Army is a group organized to raise money and awareness for leukemia. The group was started to support Alice Moore, the younger sister of Canisius women’s basketball assistant coach Nick Moore. Alice Moore was diagnosed with leukemia last summer and has been battling the disease through chemotherapy treatments at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.

“I have been friends with the Moore family for more than 25 years and have known Alice since she was born. We want to help Alice, her family and the cause in any way that we can,” Canisius coach Terry Zeh said. “The girls on our team are close with Coach Moore and want to do anything they can to help the family out as well.”

At Sunday’s game, both teams will be wearing Alice’s Army shirts during warmups. Raffles will be held to raise money with prizes including a signed Buffalo Sabres jersey by Ryan Miller as well as athletic apparel from AdPro Sports.

T-shirts will be available to purchase at the game and all fans are encouraged to wear orange.

All money raised at Sunday’s game will go to Kaely’s Kindness, an organization founded to help teenage girls dealing with cancer, and to Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Alice’s Army started in late December when more than $7,000 was raised at an alumni basketball game held in her hometown of Fredonia, N.Y.
