The Canisius College softball team moved to 2-0 in the fall season with a 10-1 win over Brantford Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. Three Golden Griffin pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts and Valorie Nappo and Tori Nappo each had multi-hit games in the winning effort.
Senior Jen Consaul earned the win after she fanned six and allowed just one hit in three innings of work. Sophomore Jenn Solis pitched two innings and struck out two before freshman Sarah Andrews closed out the game with two strikeouts in the final two frames.
Offensively, the Nappo sisters each had multi-hit days in the win, led by sophomore Tori Nappo and her RBI-triple. Freshman Lindsey Silfer had an RBI-triple, while junior Robin Kennery added two RBI to the winning cause. Redshirt sophomore Erica Afanador had a double and two RBI for Canisius as well.
The Griffs will return to action Sept. 21-22 when the team hosts the 25th annual Canisius - Nan Harvey Softball Fall Classic at the Northtown Center in Amherst, N.Y. Canisius will play Buffalo, Niagara and St. Bonaventure in the round-robin event.
