Canisius freshman Lindsey Silfer was named the MAAC’s Rookie of the Week on Tuesday after the Cicero, N.Y. native hit .583 with three doubles, a home run, three RBI and six runs scored in eight games for the Golden Griffins from April 7-13.
Silfer led all Canisius players last week with her .583 batting average after she went 14-for-24 at the plate. She had at least one hit in all eight contests to extend her hitting streak to 11 games, which matches the longest hitting streak on the team this season. Dating back to the Griffs’ game against Iona April 6, she has reached base safely in 12-straight games, the longest streak of its kind for a Canisius player this season.
Silfer had five multi-hit games last week, highlighted by her career-high three hits in the team’s 9-7 road win at St. Bonaventure April 9. In the second game of that non-league twinbill, she hit her first career homer and her three doubles last week gives her six for the season, which ranks third on the 2014 roster. For the week, she posted a slugging percentage of .833 to go with an on-base percentage of .630. During her 11-game hitting streak, Silfer has raised her batting average by 74 points, and she currently leads the Griffs with her .354 batting average this year.Canisius is 11-23 overall and 2-6 in MAAC play after splitting a MAAC doubleheader at Saint Peter’s April 13.
