The Canisius softball team will open the 2014 fall schedule on Saturday, Sept. 6, when the Golden Griffins host Humber College, interim head coach Kim Griffin announced today. In all, Canisius is scheduled to play 10 games during the non-traditional season, highlighted by its annual appearance in the 25th annual Canisius-Nan Harvey Fall Classic.
After opening the fall slate with a doubleheader against Humber Sept. 6, the team will return to the Demske Sept. 13, when the Griffs host Mercyhurst for a twinbill which is set to begin at 5 p.m. Canisius will play a single game at Monore County Community College Sept. 19, before taking on long-time rival Niagara on the first day of the 25th annual Canisius-Nan Harvey Fall Classic on Friday, Sept. 26.
This year's Canisius-Nan Harvey Fall Classic will be played at Sunshine Park in West Seneca, N.Y. This year’s schedule features all four Western New York Division I schools playing over three days from Sept. 26-28. In 2004, the tournament name was changed to honor the memory of Nan Harvey, a former Western New York umpire and University at Buffalo coach and administrator, who lost her battle with cancer. On Sept. 27, the Griffs will play St. Bonaventure at 9 a.m., before taking on Buffalo at 11 a.m. The fall season will wrap up Oct. 3, when the Blue and Gold plays host to Mercyhurst Northeast for a single game. That contest will start at 7 p.m.
The softball team will return 12 position players and one pitcher from last year’s roster.
