The visiting Buffalo Bulls scored four runs in the third and added markers in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings en route to a 10-2 win over Canisius College in a non-conference softball game Wednesday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. The victory improves Buffalo to 9-20 on the year while the Golden Griffins fell to 9-22 overall.

The Bulls racked up 16 hits off the Griffs' pitching staff, led by junior Alyssa Ward, who hit for the cycle after she went 4-for-5 with a home run, a triple, a double and a single to go with two runs scored and six RBIs. Ward was one of five UB players to register multiple hits on the day, with freshman Karly Nevez adding three hits, including a double. Buffalo pitcher Tori Speckman improved her record to 7-9 on the year after she allowed just two runs on six hits while walking three and striking out eight.

Canisius scored first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Lauren Falzone led off the inning with one of her two hits on the day, and she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by teammate Katie Lancellotti. After senior Lizzy Gatto drew a one-out walk, sophomore Valorie Nappo singled through the left side of the infield to drive in Falzone and Gatto. Those would be Canisius' last runs of the day, as the Blue and Gold managed six hits and left 11 runners on base.

Buffalo took the lead for good with four runs in the top of the third frame, highlighted by Ward's triple to the gap in right center that cleared the bases. She would later score on a base hit by teammate Sammi Gallardo. After adding a single run in the fifth to help the Bulls to a 5-2 advantage, Buffalo pushed its cushion to 7-2 in the sixth on Ward's third home run of the season - a two-run shot over the fence in straight-away centerfield. Buffalo took advantage of three Canisius errors in the seventh to score three more times and put the game away for good.

Falzone led Canisius with her two hits, while Nappo finished the day by going 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Gatto, senior Lauryn Chris and freshman Michelle DelPrince also added base knocks to the Griffs' losing effort. Senior pitcher Caroline Main took the loss for the Blue and Gold after she allowed four runs on five hits while striking out four and walking one in 2.1 innings of action.

Canisius will continue its homestand Saturday, April 14, when the team plays host to Fairfield at the Demske Sports Complex in a MAAC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.

Game Notes: Canisius leads the all-time series against Buffalo by a 25-17 count... Falzone's two hits on Wednesday gives her 13 multi-hit games this season... Nappo's two RBIs against Buffalo gives her four runs batted in through the team's last seven games, dating back to April 5, against Mount St. Mary's... Chris' single in the sixth for the Griffs extended her hitting streak to six-straight games... Gatto stole her team-leading 12th base of the year in the first inning but she was gunned down on a stolen base try in the third, snapping her string of 32-straight stolen bases without being caught.
