The Canisius College softball team scored twice in the first and added an insurace run in the sixth on an RBI-triple by sophomore Robin Kennery to defeat Monroe Community College 3-1 Sunday morning in Niagara Falls, N.Y. The Golden Griffins are now 4-2 during the fall season.

The Blue and Gold jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first when freshman Meghan Cuda started the frame with a bunt-single before stealing second base. Sophomore Michelle DelPrince knocked Cuda in with a base hit to right center to make it 1-0, and she would later come in to score on a squeeze-bunt by junior Valorie Nappo to make it 2-0 in favor of the Griffs.

MCC made it a one-run game at 2-1 in the fifth inning when the Tribunes scored an unearned run off junior pitcher Jen Consaul. Canisius posted an insurance run in the sixth to make it 3-1 thanks to Kennery's triple to the gap in right center that allowed sophomore Marissa Miller to score from first base.

Senior Amanda Baun earned the win in the circle after she gave up just one hit to go with seven strikeouts in four innings of work. Consaul threw the final three frames and earned the save after giving up one unearned run to go with four strikeouts.

Canisius will close out its fall schedule Oct. 7, when the Griffs host Mercyhurst NE at the Demske Sports Complex for a doubleheader.
