Behind six goals from sophomore Tori Quinn, including the game-tying and game-winning tallies, the Canisius women's lacrosse team won for the fourth time in the last five games with an 11-9 overtime win over Duquesne University at the Demske Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Griffins improve to 4-3 on the season.

Quinn set a career high with the six goals, scoring four of the team's final five goals on the day. Junior Maria Kotas added four points (two goals, two assists), three caused turnovers and three draw controls. Senior Morgan Leonard recorded five caused turnovers and four groundballs while senior Lindsay Morgan had two goals and two draw controls.

"Today was a big character win. We made enough of the big plays, especially with our top players executing their roles, at the end of the game to get a hard-earned victory," Canisius coach Scott Teeter said. "This was a great lacrosse game against a quality opponent. We have a quick turnaround for Tuesday's game against Monmouth and can definitely build off this win."

After Duquesne (3-4) scored the first goal of the game just 27 seconds into the contest, the Griffs tallied the next two scores, with Kotas and Morgan making long runs at the net and finishing with goals to put Canisius up 2-1. The teams traded the next four goals, with Kotas recovering her own shot off the post and scoring to make it 4-3 Canisius. Canisius took the only two-goal lead of the day when Quinn came around the cage and scored in the upper-right corner to put Canisius up 5-3.

The Dukes tied the game at 5-5 before Canisius reclaimed the lead on a favorable bounce. The shot from Morgan hit off the goalie's stick and found its way behind the line to put Canisius back up by one. Duquesne tallied the next two goals to take its second lead of the day at 7-6. Canisius would get the next two goals from Quinn on free-position shots to go back up 8-7. Duquesne got the next two goals to go up 9-8 with 7:27 left. Quinn tied the game with 6:18 remaining when she came around the cage and scored for the fifth time in the game.

Canisius had a chance at the end of regulation when freshman Ashley Bull caught a pass while cutting to the net, but her shot was saved by Duquesne goalie Kristen Gregory. The Griffs scored the only two goals in overtime, with Quinn taking a pass from Kotas and getting her sixth of the day to put Canisius up less than a minute into overtime. The Griffs got an insurance goal from senior Meghan McGunigle with 10 seconds left in the first overtime period when McGunigle picked up a loose shot and scored to put the Griffs up by two.

Sophomore Kayla Scully earned her third win of the season by making eight saves.

Canisius continues its five-game homestand on Tuesday, when the Golden Griffins host Monmouth. Game time at the Demske Sports Complex is set for 4 p.m.
