SOFTBALL RETURNS TO ACTION AT WESTERN KENTUCKY

  • The Canisius College softball team returns to the dimond this weekend as the team travels to take part in the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Spring Fling, hosted by Western Kentucky.
  • The Golden Griffins are 2-2 on the season after opening the year Feb. 8-9 at the Clevelan State Dome Tournament.
  • At Cleveland State two weeks ago, the Griffs earned wins over Bucknell and Bowling Green.
  • The season-opening win over Bucknell improved Canisius to 23-12 all-time in season openers.

PRACTICE SWINGS

  • Canisius junior Robin Kennery was named to the 2014 Preseason All-MAAC Team by the league's coaches last week.
  • Freshman Lindsey Silfer leads the Griffs after the first four games of the season with her .417 batting average.
  • Sophomore Meghan Cuda hit .231 in the first weekend of the season. Two of her three hits this year are home runs, including a grand slam that helped Canisius beat Bucknell 11-10 in eight innings.
  • Cuda starts this weekend with seven of the Griffs' 11 runs batted in this season.
  • Senior Jen Consaul is 1-0 with a 4.00 ERA and six strikeouts in 14 innings of work so far for the Blue and Gold. In the team's win over Bowling Green Feb. 9, she earned the win in the circle for Canisius after she tossed a two-hitter.
