  • The Canisius softball team will start the conference portion of its 2014 slate on Sunday when the team plays host to Iona at noon.
  • The Golden Griffins will also play host to Fairfield on Monday, April 7. That series was pushed back from the original Saturday schedule date because of weather.
  • Canisius is 7-17 overall after splitting a non-conference doubleheader at home with Buffalo on April 1.
  • Entering this weekend's games, Canisius is 32-18 in its last 50 home dates.
  • Canisius' 8-7 win over Buffalo in eight innings on April 1 moves Canisius to 3-1 in extra-inning contest this season.


  • Canisius enters Sunday's doubleheader with Iona having won three of its last four games.
  • Freshman Jessica Berzins leads the team with her .338 batting average. Berzins starts the weekend with six multi-hit games, which also leads the team.
  • Sophomore Alexis Roman ranks second on the team with her .328 batting average. Roman has a three-game hitting streak entering the weekend.
  • Berzins leads the Griffs with her 12 runs scored, while teammate Michelle DelPrince has scored 11 runs for the Blue and Gold this season. As a team, Canisius has been out scored 144-67 in 24 games to date.
  • Sophomore Meghan Cuda had a home run in each of the team's games against Buffalo April 1. She leads Canisius with six homers this season after hitting just one home run in 2013.
  • Cuda also leads the squad with her 15 RBI this season. Last year in 47 games, the Lewiston, N.Y. native had 19 RBI.
  • Cuda, along with teammates Valorie Nappo and Bethany DeMarco, have reached base safely in four-straight games.
  • Senior Jen Consaul is 6-9 with a 2.57 ERA and 38 strikeouts this season in the circle for the Griffs. She has started 14 games and she's earned 12 complete games.
  • Consaul's win over Buffalo April 1 was the 29th victory of her career.


  • Iona travels to Buffalo with an 8-14 overall record and a 2-0 mark in MAAC games this season.
  • Freshman Kristen Turner is one of four Gaels to have started all 22 games this year for Iona. She leads the team with her .364 batting average to go with seven home runs and 27 RBI.
  • Turner was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week last Monday after she hit .600 with six runs scored and four RBI in three games last week.
  • As a team, Iona leads the MAAC with its .295 team batting average and its 20 home runs.
  • Opposing teams are hitting a combined .328 against Iona's pitching staff this season. Junior Carly Argyle has five wins in the circle for the Gaels and she ranks second in the MAAC with 63 strikeouts in 73.0 innings of work.


  • Sunday's games will mark the 50th and 51st all-time meeetings between these two programs.
  • Canisius leads the series 35-14, but the Gaels have won four of the last five games played between these two schools since April 14, 2012.
  • The Gaels' win over Canisius April 14, 2012 at the Demske Sports Complex snapped Iona's 12-game losing streak in MAAC regular-season games to Canisius.


  • Fairfield is 5-14 overall this season and 2-1 in MAAC play.
  • The Stags start their Western New York swing at Niagara on Sunday afternoon.
  • Senior Kristen Filicia leads Fairfield with her .407 batting average and team-high 22 hits.
  • Fellow senior Rae Ball leads the Stags' pitching staff with four wins. The Fairfield pitching staff comes to Buffalo with a team ERA of 5.97.


  • The MAAC twinbill on Monday will be the 66th and 67th all-time contest between these two schools in softball.
  • Canisius leads the all-time series 35-30.
  • Dating back to the 2011 regular season series between these two long-time conference rivals, Fairfield has taken seven straight from the Griffs.
